#Drone Shows
International drone shows for corporate events, stadium shows, festivals, and brand presentations—perfectly synchronized to music since 1998.
The DNA of Lunatx drone shows is brought to life by decades of experience and in-house innovation in engineering and creativity. Our work is shaped by productions for world-class international events. Lunatx SFX relies on the IO Star 3 swarm with RTK-based positioning. Precisely synchronized with sound and visuals, smooth & slick moving lights create an otherworldly experience. We call it the »Symphony of Flying Lights«.
A drone show is a choreographed light display consisting of many synchronized LED drones that create three-dimensional formations and moving images in the night sky. With the help of specialized software, the drones follow precisely programmed flight paths and together form visual scenes, logos, or abstract animations.
Typical features of a drone show:
The combination of technology, storytelling, and lighting design creates an immersive show format that is particularly suitable for corporate events, festivals, product launches, and large ceremonies.
With Lunatx drone shows, the sky becomes a multimedia stage – with formations spanning up to one kilometre.
Lunatx flies the IO Star 3 by Drotek, developed and manufactured in France. The software-based control environment is part of Drotek’s IO Star system. At the Lunatx LAB, we develop our own hardware solutions for the operator station, as well as tools and workflows for show design, formation planning, 3D previews and music synchronization.
Lunatx drone shows combine real events with digital experiences: drones can display interactive elements such as QR codes in the sky and link content directly to viewers’ smartphones. At the same time, they create visual highlights with a wide reach – from emotional storytelling moments to spectacular brand presentations with an enormous viewing area.
Precisely choreographed, technologically innovative and perfectly tailored to your event.
Breathtaking light effects in the sky and magical choreographies in 3D. This creates goosebump moments from Light and sound.
Combination of AI, drones and storytelling – precisely choreographed. Real-time programming for creative freedom.
The show operation itself is emission-free: the drones are powered by battery packs and produce neither residues nor particulate matter. During flight, the drones operate at low noise levels. Manufacturing, transport and travel are not included. (As of August 2026)
The event trend of tomorrow: a modern alternative to fireworks – fresh, digital and future-orientated. A highlightalso as a reel.
Tested and approved by the German LBA in accordance with European EASA regulations: redundancy, geofence andSystem E-Stop.
Breaking new ground with reduced silhouettes and logos, gigantic, moving 3D objects or live portraits.
Lunatx drone pilots – visionary, experienced, and certified.
Lunatx drone pilots complete regular flight training at our airfield in Düsseldorf to continuously refine their drone coordination skills. They are trained to synchronize drones, control complex lighting sequences and formations, and operate shows in real time.
Through a combination of technical skills and creative thinking, they are able to perform fascinating drone shows.
Our remote pilots hold the competency certificates required under EU Regulation 2019/947, as well as the EU Remote Pilot Certificate A2. Every drone show is conducted as an operation in the Specific Category, based on a project-specific risk assessment and our operational authorisation issued by the German Federal Aviation Authority (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt). Germany’s well-known educational TV program Die Sendung mit der Maus takes a behind-the-scenes look at modern drone shows with us and explains how hundreds of drones work together to create precise shapes and animations in the sky. The segment shows how the drones are programmed, synchronized and flown to form images made of hundreds of coordinated light points. The full feature can be watched in the ARD Mediathek.
The cost of a drone show depends on several factors. Each production is planned individually, which is why the price can vary depending on the concept and general conditions.
The most important factors affecting the price of a drone show are:
Since every drone show is individually designed, we would be happy to advise you personally on your project.
A drone show works thanks to precise software programming and real-time control. Each individual drone is digitally planned in advance and assigned a precisely defined flight route.
During the show, the drones communicate with a central Ground Control Station on the ground. Under good reception conditions, an RTK-GNSS system (Real-Time Kinematic) provides centimetre-level positioning accuracy, enabling precisely synchronized movements and lighting effects. The system is based on a project-specific base station.
Experienced pilots and trained technicians monitor the drone show in real time to ensure safe, smooth operation and guarantee the safety of the audience at all times.
Yes, a professional drone show is based on comprehensive safety concepts and certified technology. Our drones are specially developed for drone light shows in the EU and feature redundant sensor technology and multiple communication channels to the ground control station.
Preflight checks, geofencing systems, and an emergency shutdown mechanism ensure that the drones operate safely and remain within defined flight areas. Operating licenses are reviewed and approved by the Federal Aviation Authority (LBA) based on EASA regulations.
In addition, a prescribed safety distance from the audience is taken into account during planning. Experienced pilots and trained technicians monitor the drone show in real time throughout its entire duration.
We recommend that you contact our team to discuss the details, as the number of drones depends on both the animation and the budget.
A drone show is a precisely choreographed light display created by numerous LED drones that produce moving formations, patterns, and three-dimensional images in the night sky. State-of-the-art flight technology is combined with artistic design to enable visual effects and storytelling in the air.
The sky becomes a canvas for logos, abstract shapes or large-scale 3D objects. Depending on the number of drones deployed, formations using around 700 drones can span up to one kilometre in width. Each drone follows an individually programmed flight path, controlled via a central ground computer to ensure safe and synchronized movements.
Drone shows can be combined with music, live performances, or additional effects such as smoke, pyrotechnics, laser systems, or intelligent spotlights to create a unique visual experience.
Eine Drohnenshow eignet sich für zahlreiche Veranstaltungen, bei denen visuelle Wirkung und Aufmerksamkeit im Vordergrund stehen. Sie eignet sich besonders für:
Thanks to their flexible design, drone shows can be individually tailored to different target audiences and event formats. (As of August 2026)
Whether a drone show can take place in the rain depends on the current weather conditions. Our show drones are among the most rain-resistant drone solutions in Germany and have been specially developed for professional outdoor use. Light rain is usually not a problem.
In other countries, such as Austria, regulatory requirements may prohibit flights at temperatures below 5°C or humidity levels above 80%, as rotor icing could compromise flight safety. (As of August 2026)
For the safe and stable operation of a drone show, wind speeds of up to 9 m/s can be accommodated without issue. Within this range, our systems ensure precise flight stability and reliable choreography. (As of August 2026)
The average preparation time for a drone show is about one month. However, for optimal planning, permits, and the development of animations and music, we recommend a lead time of 2–3 months.
Depending on the occasion and scope of the project, drone shows can also be realized at short notice—in some cases within 1–2 weeks or even faster. The exact implementation time is agreed individually with our project managers.
A drone show usually lasts up to 15 minutes. Depending on weather conditions such as low temperatures or strong winds, the flight time may be reduced to around 10 minutes. For most show formats, this duration is ideal in terms of dramaturgy.
For longer concepts, several launches can be planned in succession. Depending on the setup, our latest generation of drones also enables flight times of up to 25 minutes. We would be happy to advise you personally on your individual requirements.
As a general rule, a drone swarm may not fly over people without appropriate safety measures. Drone shows are therefore conducted in accordance with clearly defined safety concepts, regulatory approvals and specified safety distances to ensure the safety of everyone involved at all times. Professional drone shows are considered an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fireworks. Our drones are manufactured in France and powered by renewable energy. The Ground Control Station on site also operates using battery packs supported by solar panels, ensuring that the show operation itself produces no local pollutant emissions.
During flight, the drones operate quietly and cause no air pollution or pyrotechnic residue. This makes drone shows particularly suitable for sustainable and noise-sensitive events.
Professionally conducted drone shows are planned in such a way as to minimize risks to animals. Our drones fly at a speed that allows flying animals to perceive and avoid them in time, thus preventing collisions.
The creation of a drone light show is carried out in close collaboration with our creative team. Together, we develop a concept based on your ideas and requirements. The show is refined in several rounds of feedback until the desired result is achieved.
You can find further insights into completed projects in our drone shows.
Each drone show is planned and implemented individually. The process involves several steps:
