Eurovision Song Contest – Precise Special Effects for One of the World’s Largest Live TV Events
Eurovision Song Contest Basel, Kopenhagen, Baku, Düsseldorf & Athens
The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the most complex and far-reaching live television productions in the world. Each year, an international audience of millions follows the interplay of music, stage design, lighting, and visual staging. Lunatx SFX was responsible for the execution of pyrotechnics and special effects at five editions of the contest: Basel (2025), Copenhagen (2014), Baku (2012), Düsseldorf (2011), and Athens (2006). Each of these productions presented distinct technical, architectural, and dramaturgical challenges, requiring a precise, safety-driven, and camera-focused approach.
With the Baku Crystal Hall, purpose-built for the competition, the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 featured a stage of exceptional scale. Transparent layers, expansive LED surfaces, and clear lines defined the visual appearance. Lunatx SFX realized the pyro and special effects sequences, precisely synchronized with music, camera work, and lighting, marking key dramaturgical highlights.
