Opening Ceremony of the FISU World University Games 2025 in Duisburg

An international stage, regional soul, and spectacular technology: The official opening ceremony of the FISU World University Games 2025 transformed the Duisburg stadium into an arena of emotion – featuring Lunatx pyro and flame shows.

Multisport Event Meets Staged Spectacle: An Experience for All Senses

With 20,000 spectators in the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena, the FISU Games 2025 kicked off with a show that united sport, culture, and technology. Backed by live music, choreographed effects, and emotional dramaturgy, we set new standards in event production.

With hundreds of precisely choreographed firing positions, we designed a visual spectacle in the night sky. The color-intense aerial fireworks were the emotional opener for the World University Games – synchronized to music and visible far beyond the stadium.

Show Design with Regional Identity

The opening show merged symbols of the Ruhr region’s heritage with cutting-edge live show technology. Music, pyro effects, and choreography came together to tell a story: from industrial legacy to an international celebration of sport.

Even before sunset, colored smoke effects and daytime pyrotechnics added vibrant accents. Smoke columns, fog effects, and spark elements enriched the show dramaturgically – colorful, energetic, and precisely timed.

SFX Made in Germany – Expertise from the Lunatx LAB

The Lunatx LAB developed a tailored effect design for the Duisburg stadium. Every cue – from the smallest flame to the broadest wave of light – was composed to the hundredth of a second, executed with precision, and controlled in real time.

Special Effects with ECO2Jets & Flames

Dynamic ECO2Jets, flame lines, and atmospheric SFX delivered goosebump moments throughout the show. The combination of heat, light, and rhythm created an immersive live experience for both the stadium audience and global stream viewers.
